RSA’s insight partner, Foresight Factory, analyses some of the emerging trends around how the relationships consumers have with their pets are evolving.

Introduction

Pet ownership across all ages has risen since 2010, with 53% of British consumers owning a pet in 2016, from 49% in 2010.  The consumer relationship with their pets has also changed, with pet expenditure reaching £4.6 billion in 2016, from £3 billion in 2011.  Consumers are appreciating their pets more, spending more money on them, and anthropomorphising them – often treating them much the same as children.
